You are absolutely right here, Ian. Didn't care what the clock thought
about time until I moved shack indoors and entered the world of computer
logging. So now I set clock to UTC via the Naval Observatory web site.
Either the site or the PC tends to drift a bit and I have to reset once a
week. Wish they would get their act together.

Why not just punch in the local offset to UTC in the logging software?
Because one of several software items doesn't provide for the offset and has
fooled me on occasion.

AND because at least one other SOC can't remember his own offset and has
missed a sked at indecent hour of the night. No names here, but he would be
a newly minted European ham who was so excited when a subsequent sked worked
that he hasn't been heard since.

Wouldn't you expect quick witted responses to outpace slow witted posts,
especially given the distance to Oz. Or do you reverse order in the
southern hemisphere? (Is there any order down there?) Perhaps we order
find out.

Ian, nobody ever accused you of losing your nerve.

You obviously don't understand the long term popularity of our TV quiz
show, "Jeopardy."
