I have you beat by three years. I was responding to Claude's inference

I bought an HTML book about 7 years ago, before all the frames, XML,
CGI and Java stuff became so prevalent.
I use lynx (ASCII text) as a browser much of the time but it won't
display a lot of the stuff you find these days.

Hmmm. I'd rather have one which works in Linux but other than stuff
like Netscape Composer, I haven't seen any. My main computer is set up
to boot either Linux or Windows 98, so I will take a look, thanks.

That one is available for Linux, in fact I already have it installed.
I haven't used it yet, however.
