Actually it's QANTAS - Stands for Queensland and Northern Territory Air
Service.

Thankfully true, let's keep it that way... Stupid gummint always wants to let
bean counters run things. Oz public don't want cost cutting in maintenance etc.
Was owned 100% by the taxpayers once, I think we only own 51% now.

Dick Smith reckons "The trade off of between cheaper prices and an acceptable
level of maintenance is quite OK". Sheez and they made him the head of the OZ
equivalent of the US FAA at one time...
