They're excuse might actually be that their server doesn't have the adequate
processing power to filter out as well as send the emails out.

Why do I get the feeling a "call for contributions" will be sent out...

My reaction, was "OMG they're running sendmail!"
170,000 users, I can't figure out how they keep up with it.  Might explain
why
they never have any RBL/spam prevention.

It is very simple to setup a rudimentary blacklist.  this will cut the
amount
of spam they rx in half.  They have no excuse for this.  Running a public
internet server is not a responsibility to be taken lightly.  If they will
not lock their MX down, this will happen again.

IIRC, a similar situation happend a year ago, their upstream provider cut
them
off for the amount of spam comming from them.
