And you won't see any other industry getting subsidized by the tax payer
dollar in the process!
How much did we give them? 10 billion? I think it was MUCH more than
that. And they're screwing the public worse than ever! They are acting
the same way as congress with some of the HORRIFIC legislation (*cough* CFR
*ack*) they are shoving down our throats. They know nobody will do
anything about it.

Subject: [SOC] Rant again
Sorry folks. Another non-radio related rant. Got to get it out of my
system. This concerns the airline (so-called) industry. From a scheduled
6
PM departure last night which did not occur until 10 PM when we're in the
process of boarding that they decided to cancel the flight. I won't even
mention the stated REASONS (they couldn't get their stories to jive) they
canceled the flight. No one would believe it. I sure don't. Flight
delays
and cancellations are going to follow bad weather conditions. Understood.
What is not understood and should not be accepted is the handling of
business and procedures by the airlines which rather than the direct
weather
problems, actually cause the delays and cancellations.
Ya know, if any other industry in the country conducted business like the
airlines industry did, they'd be out of business. Most other industries
cater to the needs and demands of the market. If they don't, the market
(the consuming public) says, "if you can't do the job, you won't have us as
customers" and they'd be out of business in favor of someone who could and
would do the job. At the least, made to pay for poor business which would
be a real incentive for them to clean up their act.
What the general (non-flying) public never really sees is the true level of
incompetence in the management of the airlines. Arbitrary flight
cancellations are perhaps the worst but not the only offences. The general
public hears the horror news stories in the media of "flight rage" - unruly
customers - and flight delays and cancellations "due to weather related"
problems and such. Those who spend any time flying know better. After
thirty some years as a frequent flyer, I've certainly seen enough to know
better. I just saw more examples of this last night. One example, some
guys (for a different flight going somewhere) had after several hours of
waiting, their flight cancelled. They voiced their displeasure.
Apparently, they'd been trying to get a commitment on what this particular
flight was going to do for a number of hours. They had asked if they
should
consider alternate plans (find a different flight which they had plenty of
opportunity to do) and had been repeatedly assured (emphatically) that the
flight in question was going to be going. Of course after it was too late
to make those alternative plans, this flight was cancelled at the last
minute, leaving them stuck. That'll teach 'em. Next time maybe they'll
listen to their gut feeling and make a better choice.
I think if all who have experienced such non-sense would rather than just
yell at the ticket/gate agents would band together as a mass movement and
say to the airline industry "WE the market are going to set the rules for
your business conduct", things would change. Probably never happen, but
who
knows, if the public gets fed up sufficiently anything can happen.
Some airlines are worse than others. One of the worst offenders here in
DFW
is American Eagle.
So, I'm back home. Gotta call my customer this morning and tell her I'm
not
going to be there. Maybe some more radio time today? Maybe Ducie Isl.?
