I recently heard about an Extra Class ham in Florida who didn't have a
clue about how to check his swr even though his TS-870 has a built-in
swr meter. He was totally perplexed about why he wasn't getting out
very well anymore. He used to get out fine, and the only change that
had been made in his setup was that he had cut down the big tree that
had supported one end of his dipole, and then, for lack of a better
support, had wrapped one end of the dipole (uninsulated wire) around a
metal fencepost. This is probably the sort of individual who never
seems to know where the DX is listening.
