Actually when Jerry Lewis was last here (he seems to come here twice a year) he
gave a very lengthy interview which seemed to cover almost every topic you can
think of. He is very intelligent, knowledgeable and extremely well spoken.

He was very "fired" up on modern comedians who largely rely upon smut, putting
people down etc. to succeed. He had a particular hate on one TV comedian whom I
got the impression was Seinfeld (I've never seen him so I could be wrong).

His personal story (true) about finally getting to play in Carnegie Hall (I
think) was absolutely hilarious.

Seems all the years of his great success his father would say to him: "You can't
be successful, you never played Carnegie Hall" and so it went on for decades.
Ultimately his father passed away and Jerry played Carnegie Hall, I forget the
punch line but it was good. He really loved his father and it was a shame he
never lived to see Jerry achieve that.

Like a lot of us, his respect for his father was absolute. Success in his
father's mind was never measured in dollar success terms, nor is it in Jerry's
mind.
