Likewise, the Spanish probably are a bit reluctant to drink "cola".

Of course, for the bilingual it can get really confusing.  My wife was
born in the U.S., but her family spoke French at home (her father was a
frog and her mother's parents were from Quebec) so she learned that
language fairly well, but hasn't used it much in many years.

Once we went out to dinner with a young lady from France who spoke
little English.  My wife asked her (in French) if she liked to eat the
French delicacy brains, but instead of using the French word, she
used the English word, which translates somewhat differently (crap)!

When we got to the restaurant, I maneuvered my car into a very tight
parking spot and the French young lady said to me, "Bob, you are an
ace!"  Not bad, except that she pronounced it "ass".
