Not being American, I had to look up the lyrics to 'Banner' on the
internet....sorry.
It doesn't sound like it's about a war to me, it is about a flag, and it
still being stood there defiantly after an overnight naval barrage from us
slimy double-crossing limeys who kept Mr Scott Key a prisoner, after he had
come (presumably under a flag of truce) on a humanitarian (?) mission.
As an outsider, I think old glory always looks its best when flown in
defiance - torn, dirty and scorched, such as from a piece of debris at
ground zero, or in that famous photo which was adapted for the Marines
memorial. (I saw that being unveilled on TV...wow!).
