Speaking of America the Beautiful, am I the only one that gets SERIOUSLY cheesed off
when that gets sung before a sporting event in place of the national anthem? "Here
to sing the 'national anthem', some whiny anti-war nut job who doesn't like our real
anthem because it's about a war and that's not something she agrees with so she's
going to sing a song she thinks is better!"

Also, America the Beautiful will never become our national anthem... "God shed his
grace on thee" is too *offensive* to another group of whiny nut jobs ;^)

The Star-Spangled Banner became the U.S. National Anthem by an Act of
Congress in 1931. It is sung to the tune of an old British drinking song
called "To Anacreon in Heaven." I remember once seeing Frank Sinatra try to
sing it on live TV, but he was so drunk, he forgot the words. It's tough
enough to sing even if you're not drunk.
