Some days ago I gave you some idea if you were looking for a pet for your
child(ren).
Here is an other idea. This one may be a better one for at least 2 reasons :
- you will do something positive for the Earth future
- you will give to your child(ren) the opportunity to make some sport (boxing
in the present case ... or maybe ... wrestling ?!!).

Bacteria to reduce "natural gaz" coming from the Australian cattle
[ 03/06/2002 10:07 ] CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Australian researchers
announced Monday that they hoped to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases
produced by the bovines and the sheep of the country thanks to bacteria present
in the stomach of the kangaroos. "Contrary to the cattle and the sheep, the
kangaroos do not seem to produce methane when they digest", explained Athol
Cleavey, researcher in scientific Agence for food and fibers of Queensland.
According to researchers, this apparently results from the presence in their
stomach of micro-organisms assimilating hydrogen. The herbivores, explains
Mr. Cleavey, produce methane to drive out of their digestive system hydrogen
resulting from fermentation. Athol Cleavey and his team study 40 kinds of
bacteria collected in the stomach of kangaroos to identify those which would be
most useful in the organism of the other animals. They also hope that their
research will enable them to increase the production of the farms, by helping
the cattle with better digesting.
The gastro-intestinal disorders of the cattle constitute an huge problem for
Australia. The country is indeed the largest greenhouse gas producer, in
particular because of its enormous herds which produce each year approximately
three million tons of methane, that is to say 14 % of the total annual
emissions of the country. Methane has an index of potential reheating 21 times
higher than that of the carbon dioxide resulting from the combustion of the
fossils like coal and oil and natural gas. AP

There is an other one about Australia but this one is nor funny nor "strange"
so I will "forget" it.
Ian, my friend, if you are reading this, the other piece of news if about the
Archbishop of Sydney, G. Pell. I'm sure you see what I mean :o(((
