Maybe, It does get a bit like trench warfare at times, but the flipside is
that in "footie" (soccer) it really isn't over 'till the fat lady sings.
Whereas in (say) basketball you can be getting to the end of the match and
it's a foregone conclusion at 25-6, such runaway victories are rare in
footie, and the result of the match can suddenly be turned upside down in
the last couple of minutes or even in added "injury time" as the clock runs
down.
One of our best teams are past masters at this, going behind early in the
game to stupid defensive errors (I'm talking about you Mr Barthez...sorry
Claude) - only to snatch victory in the closing few minutes. Alex Ferguson
(their manager) is convinced that they do it on purpose to bump him off with
a heart attack or something.

Whatever rocks your boat, I suppose.
Good luck to the USA footie team...t'would be nice to play them.
