A Christmas carol to cancel his fine [ 24/12/2002 16:01 ]
COLUMBIA, Tennessee (AP) - an American judge makes sing the roadhogs.
With Christmas coming, Tom Dubois thus proposed to 55 people condemned
for offences against the highway code to be exempted of fine and
withdrawal of points. The contraveners had... to sing a Christmas
carol and to give five cans to the food bank.
Judge Dubois thus perpetuates three years an old tradition of the
police court of Columbia (Tennessee) and in force the last day of the
lawsuits before Christmas.
The deal is proposed to the motorists taken in excess speed or having
jumped a stop. Other infringements do not profit from this grace, in
particular those on the use of the belt and the safety requirements
for the children.
"I am a little timid, except when it is a question of saving a dollar.
It was a Christmas present rather funny", commented on Clifford Jones,
which sang "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
Donald Hatler, who interpreted "Lives the wind", did not expect this
anticipated Christmas present. "It was a little embarrassing", he
said. "I do not have the most beautiful voice of the world, but that
was worth the sorrow".
