Artificial intelligence applied to the sporting bets [ 2002-12-11 21:43 ]
LONDON (Reuters) - a data-processing software, conceived by an Australian
academic, carried out better sporting bets than human most experts with more
than two thirds correct forecasts during the 2002 season of the Australian
league of Rugby. According to the scientific review New Scientist, software
MAIT, for Intelligent Artificially Tipster, uses a combination of statistical
factors, like the performance of the team or the marked points, to predict the
end of a match. Its designer, Alain McCabe, of the university James Cook in the
State of Queensland, in the north of Australia, estimates that his program can
be adapted to other sports, such football ["soccer", for those wrongly
using "football" for something else. NDT], baseball or the cricket.
