In the 1960's we had a large store in Sydney called "Toy Fisheries", for months
they advertised baby crocodiles.

"Be the only kid on the block with a Croc"

The gummint down on that.

Years ago [decades?] an "Alligator Snapping Turtle" was stolen from the nearby
Reptile Park. These grow very large and are quite savage if disturbed or upset,
hence the name.

About two years ago some workers encountered this fearsome creature in a canal down
in Sydney. At first no one believed them [what you been drinking?]

Anyhow one intrepid copper got up the nerve to have a close look. He retreated real
fast and agreed they hadn't been drinking. Eventually experts decided to call in
real experts from guess where? Gosford Reptile Park.

By this time the media had been in a real lather of frenzy over "monsters" living
in canals etc. [lock up your daughters etc, science fiction and so on]

The Gosford experts identified it as a snapping turtle, but the [now] size
suggested it was the stolen one.

" Amazingly, a huge adult male alligator snapping turtle was recently discovered in
the drains of inner Sydney, New South Wales. He was relocated to the Australian
Reptile Park where he was christened 'Leonardo' after the "Mutant Ninja Turtles'
and quickly became an international celebrity."
