I've kind of set it up on the shelf for a while. I have
some FT-243 crystals I was grinding (now that was fun)
to use with it, but never could make them oscillate
directly. I use my crystal tester and inject the signal
into the crystal socket. That also reduces the chirp.
It runs about 0.5 watts out on 40 meters, but I think I
could get more out if I redesigned the tank circuit.

The original design was for 80 meters by Mike W3IRZ.
There is some info (and a schematic) at:

http://www.qsl.net/kl7h/noga2.htm

The design and construction instructions are also in
the NoGa Compendum available from QRP ARCI. It took me
an hour or two the drill the chasis (a loaf pan--that's
SOC isn't it?) and about two hours to wire the thing
and get it working. The most challenging part was the
tank, and I'm not happy with the way that turned out.

The original design was for 80 meters--I tried to dual
band mine. I get about 750 mW out on 80M, 500 mW on
40M, and about 200 mW on 30M. (That's from memory, it
may be off 50 mW or so one way or the other.) It'd be
tough to get this working on 20M or 15M unless you
really spent some time with it.

If you'd have sent this before the QRP ARCI, I might
have dusted it off for the Holiday Sprint yesterday. I
used my TenTec 1340 kit instead, but maybe next time
I'll give it a shot with something that glows in the
dark...
