'Cos he was responsible for making people drive on the right. Up until
then the custom was to pass to the left of someone coming toward you;
keeps your sword arm on the side of a potential foe. Same reason that
spiral staircases generally go clockwise upwards - to give the defenders
a better chance.

I believe it was Napoleon that decided that the rest of Europe (apart from
Sweden until the late sixties) should drive on the right.

Don't know why.........
