Keeps the FDA and their staff employed?  Supposedly
the high costs are to provide for the research to make
sure all is safe for consumption - and they totally disregard
the usage reports from other countries which could lower
prices and make the pharmaceuticals available years sooner.
Regardless of the reasons, it is still a racket.
