[SMCARA] SMCARA display at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum STEAM festival on Saturday, 11 March 2023, 10 AM to 3 PM

Folks,

 

  Members of the St. Mary's County Amateur Radio Association (SMCARA) will
be showcasing the amateur radio hobby tomorrow, Saturday, 11 March 2023, at
the Pax River Naval Air Museum in Lexington Park just outside the main gate
to the naval air station.  Our display will be in the new T&E display Hall
(next to the highway) from 10 AM to 3 PM.  Our display will be one of about
twenty exhibits in the hall that will be presenting information on various
technologies and activities that support STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning for children of all ages.  We
will be doing some simple "hands on" activities such as demonstrating kit
building and cable fabrication.  Our primary focus is to engage people at
the show with a little less emphasis on actual radio communications this
time although we hope to be able to make a few contacts on the local
repeaters, if possible.

 

  There is a nominal fee for adults attending (children are free) that helps
support the educational events at the museum but the entire museum is open
to the general public and will include simulator rides, an art show by
renowned aviation artist Hank Caruso, an excellent gift shop, and access to
the aircraft displays on the flight line.  There will be a food truck
on-site during the event.
