Hello from Pam - KB3SWS.  The 2023 Winter Field Day weekend is fast
approaching, and will be held on Friday, January 27 through Sunday,
January 29, 2023.  You are invited to attend the Field Day event at the
Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center (NCEEC), 5300 Turkey Tayac
Place, Nanjemoy, MD 20662 (Charles County).  For directions to the site,
which includes the Nanjemoy Creek Observatory, go to the link on the
Southern Maryland Astronomical Society (SMAS) website:
http://www.smas.us/html/directions_to_smas.html.

NOTE 1: NCEEC is a facility of the Charles County School District,
therefore, it is a smoke free, alcohol free and drug free zone.

The Field Day invitation will also be extended to other hams, aspiring
hams and guests in Southern Maryland, so feel free to forward this
information.

NOTE 2: For those who want to set up early, we will be on site beginning
on Friday, January 27.  The gate will be unlocked at 11:00 AM.  If you
arrive on Friday, January 27, you have the option of staying overnight,
or setting up your gear and returning on Saturday, January 28.  The
facility will be locked overnight.

For Field Day, beginning on Saturday, January 28, we will open the gate
by 9:00 AM, but you may arrive later in the day and depart at a time
that fits your schedule.  The gate will be open again by 9:00 AM on
Sunday, January 29, if you are not staying overnight and returning for
the second day, or attending on Sunday only.

You may attend on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, for as long as your
schedule allows.  You are not required to stay overnight, in order to
participate in our Field Day event.

NOTE 2: NCEEC is a working school site, with students on location on
weekdays.  It is also a gated facility.  If you need to visit the site
ahead of time to plan your setup, do not try to visit the site by
yourself!  You must contact me ahead of time, and I will make
arrangements to meet you on site during a time that will not interfere
with the classes.

Winter Field Day operations will begin at 1900 UTC (2:00 PM EST) on
Saturday, January 28 and end at 18:59 UTC (1:59 PM EST) on Sunday,
January 29.

FYI: This event is more casual, with regard to the contesting aspect.
Individual hams may keep track of their contacts, but they will not
necessarily submit results for awards.  It is a good venue to practice
setting up portable stations, and some use this as continuing training
for EMCOMM drills. It is also a good venue to test new equipment, and to
get help from each other, when trying to solve problems or learn about
new equipment and/or software.

Set up locations will include the pavilion area and the cabin area.
There are trees for hanging antennas, and large fields for setting up
antennas in both areas.  This is a good place for that “proof of
concept” setup that does not fit in your own backyard.  You can set up
radios inside the pavilion, and/or cabins, and/or outside.  There are
outdoor picnic tables in both locations.  There are tables and chairs
inside the pavilion.  You can also provide your own folding chairs,
tables, etc., as desired.  The pavilion has central heat.

Food/Beverages:

Friday, January 27 – Please provide your own lunch for yourself.

Potluck Supper

Saturday, January 28 - Potluck Breakfast

Please provide your own lunch for yourself.

Potluck Supper

Sunday, January 29 - Potluck Breakfast

Potluck Lunch

All mealtimes are TBD.

We will provide water, coffee and hot tea.  If you prefer a different
non-alcoholic beverage, please provide your own.

I will coordinate the potluck meals, so let me know if you are planning
to join us for any of those.  Once we determine how many people will be
attending the Potluck meals, we will fine tune the details of the food
item(s) that each will provide.

NOTE 4: NCEEC has a full kitchen, so you can keep food and beverage
items in the refrigerator and/or freezer, and cook with the stove top,
oven and microwave.  If you plan to cook on site, you will need to
provide your own cookware and utensils.  I will provide paper plates,
cups, napkins and flatware for meal service.

Accommodations:

For those planning to stay overnight at NCEEC, there are six rustic
cabins on site.  As of this writing, four cabins have been reserved, by
KC3TLO, AA3WS, W8BL, and KB3SPH + KB3SWS. Each cabin has three bunk
beds, with basic mattresses, plus an electric space heater.  You will
have to provide your own sleeping bag or bedding and pillow.  Restrooms
with showers are indoors, in a separate building adjacent to the cabins.
You will have to provide your own towels.  If you are staying overnight
on Friday, January 27, and/or Saturday, January 28, let me know, and I
will reserve a cabin for you.

NOTE: The use of the cabins and facility is free.

Weather:

We may choose to cancel or modify the operations schedule, if driving is
deemed dangerous, due to winter weather forecasts (ice, extreme snow).

For general information, visit: https://www.winterfieldday.com/

To review, please answer, if you are attending the Winter Field Day event:

What day or days will you attend?

Will you stay overnight?  If so, do you need a cabin?  Also, which night
or nights?

Will you attend any of the Potluck Meals?  If so, which ones?

If you have any questions at this time, please let me know.  We hope to
see you for Winter Field Day 2023.
