CALLING ALL AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS!
WHO: Anyone interested in Amateur Radio that would like to assist us to
begin the process of putting together the new K3NHK amateur radio display
station at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum
WHAT: Amateur radio work party (rescheduled from last weekend due to
inclement weather)
WHEN: Saturday, 19 June 2021 - 9 AM to 12 noon (the more people who show
up, the faster we get done)
WHERE: Patuxent River Naval Air Museum
Building B (the large brown metal building to the rear of
the property)
22156 Three Notch Road
Lexington Park, Maryland 20653
WHAT TO BRING: Enthusiasm, work gloves, hat, sun screen (dress for warm
weather/sun)
Task 1 - Clean up miscellaneous antenna items at rear of building B:
* Check out the spare GAP Titan vertical antenna and determine if it is
still mechanically and electrically in good enough condition to possibly be
used for our upcoming Field Day operating event in Piney Point next weekend.
* Clean out all other antenna/tower items laying on the ground including a
10' section of Rohn 25G tower, and a couple of two-meter Yagi antennas. the
area where these items are currently located needs to be cleaned up so the
County Government folks can mow the lawn.
Task 2 - Prepare an operating console for use in the new radio display room:
* I have acquired two used electronic work benches, of which we will use
only one for the operating console. we just need to swap parts to make one
complete and usable console.
* We will be using two multi-drawer pedestals to support the top surface.
They currently are a little dirty and need to be pressure washed to clean
out the drawers - I will bring soap, buckets, sponges, etc. and a small
electric pressure washer which someone can use to clean the items up
* Once all the parts are cleaned up and dry, we would like to move the work
station parts to the radio room and assemble them back together. We have
carts that can be used to shuttle the items around.
Task 3 - Begin the process of reinstalling the existing antenna feedlines
into the building using the new conduit system:
* First step is to pull out ALL of the existing cabling coming through the
old entry port in the block wall into the building and seal it up. I will
be providing a 20' extension ladder... will need someone to climb up about
14' and move the existing coax around a few pipes so we can cut it. We will
need one or two others to steady the base of the ladder in the building.
* Then we need to accurately measure the length of the new conduit tube (I
will bring the appropriate very long measuring tape). NOTE: we will be
installing new coax and rotor cable in the new conduit at a later time so,
for now, we just need to determine how much cable to procure.
Task 4 - We are also having a small work party of museum volunteers and
other interested persons to move a few items in the same area inside the
building, do some sweeping of the floor, vacuuming, and/or dusting with
Swiffer's and also checking out some audio-visual items including the museum
ADS-B display and ensure they are functional. We are hoping to get this
entire building back open to the public by the July 4th weekend after a long
year of COVID issues and construction. The museum staff would be very
appreciative if anyone not busy with the above amateur radio tasks could
help out the other museum volunteers for a few minutes as we work to get the
place ready for visitors.
Contact me on my cell at 301-904-8401 or via e-mail
(pete.butt at paxmuseum.org) if you have any questions, etc.
Thank you in advance to all that might be able to stop by this Saturday
morning and help us out.
Regards,
Pete Butt - WA3UMY
