[SMCARA] 146.64 Repeater

Back a few weeks ago, we had considerable electrical activity (aka
lightning) in the vicinity of the repeater that causes a lot of static
in the machine.  Well, it seems that it also tripped something in the
Brdigecom and the machine shutdown. A quick trip to Hermanville to reset
it seemed to have fixed it. Not so fast, kemo sabe!

Now along comes some propagation enhancement and we are hearing folks
all up and down the Mid Atlantic coming in on the normally silent 64
machine! It appears that whatever caused the repeater to go off-line
also disabled the CTCSS (PL), so we were wide open, i.e., carrier access
in repeater speak. I did not check the transmit CTCSS as I don't have
any of my rigs set for receive CTCSS, but it sounds like its there.

I will take a trip down to the site this weekend and reload the software
into the Bridgecom repeater. Interestingly enough, but somewhat
confusing is that the PL processing is done in the Bridgecom and not the
controller, so using the new 70cm control link won't fix it.

Never a dull moment when dealing with repeaters!

Point to ponder: Why is the Prince Freddy machine (145.35) called "the
350 repeater" and the new LP repeater (145.39) is called the "39
machine? The trailing zero has no meaning. Have a fun weekend!
