A quick update.
Pete, WA3UMY and I did some sleuthing this week during the Tuesday net and believe we have uncovered some "desense" problems with the repeater. The desense manifests itself as the scratching noise that is heard during the time when a signal is being received. The noise is not present when there is no signal on the 146.04 input, so the transmitter is probably clean.
There are a number of coax jumpers used in the system and all are candidates for an RF "leak". Usually the cure for this is to clean and tighten all coax connectors on the system. If that does not isolate the problem, we will have to consider replacing the coax jumpers and connectors, as they are over 30 years old.
The intention is to make the repairs this weekend and anticipate a "clean" repeater for next Tuesday's net.
