Well, after much troubleshooting and an hour on the phone with the manufacturer, we have nailed down the crummy performance issue with the new Bridgecom. All the audio levels looked good on the trusty TEK-475 scope and the software was OK. I put the Motorola System Analyzer ( a combination signal generator/scope/deviation monitor/wattmeter/frequency counter) on the Bridgecom and found that it was 2.13 KHz high, almost out of the passband of your receiver! It would not respond to frequency adjustments.
I got on the phone with the techs at Bridgecom and after some probing. measuring, and voltage checks, he determined that we had a bad interface card in the repeater itself. So, the repeater is on its way back to Missouri for repair and we should have it back this week. They are picking up the tab, since it is a new repeater in warranty and this was a manufacturing defect.
The next time you hear it, it should have nice audio, without the clipping and distortion we had before.
Meanwhile the Kenwood backup is on line, albeit, without the "bells and whistles".
