Subject: RE: [SMCARA] Rotors Question
Jason,
They are all good rotors with decades of history. Your antenna goals (size
and number) are the determining factor in what class of rotor to buy.
The G-450 is a lightweight roto that will handle most V/U antennas and
SMALL HF yagis. It does NOT have a rotor brake, depending on a small
Internal friction pad and mechanical advantage to resist twisting by the
wind. Yaesu does not offer much repair support, but their rotors seem
To go on for years and can typically be repaired with commercial parts by
users. Yaesu rotor systems have often been favored by satellite operators.
Ham IV's are come from a long lineage of quality rotors. Repair shops and
parts are readily available. They are quite sturdy and able to handle
larger
Arrays and heavier loads.
-If you think you might upgrade to larger antennas in the future, buy a
larger rotor.
-Putting too much antenna on a small/cheap rotor is a recipe for breakage,
sooner rather than later.
-Rotors with brakes will stand up to heavy winds and weather better than
those without, less chance of gear breakage
-Used Ham series rotors can be a bargain if you are interested in
overhauling them yourself
-Rotor repair shops like "Norm's" often have overhauled rotors for sale at
nice discount.
I don't think you would be unhappy with the quality of any of these brands.

Subject: [SMCARA] Rotors Question
Good afternoon everyone. I am looking for advice on rotors. Any
recommendation for or against Yaesu Rotor systems? Looking at the Ham IV,
G-800DXA, and the G-450A rotors. Any wise inputs would be great.
Jason
