When flying out of Willow Run Airport doing local high resolution radar test flights in 1961, my pilot always read the tty sequences and then looked out side for a final go-no go decision. You never know what is out side unless you take a look.
The 7th of January is not the only Saturday in January! I will fire up my 2m tx-rx to monitor until 0730, then look out side.
If it is really snowy and slippery (inclement), I can plan on rescheduling for the 14th. how about that?de W3GYT Walt

After 40 years of flying, I rarely cancelled a sortie for forecast
weather. I always take a look at the current conditions and make the
call. Having said that, a "Plan B" was always an option with a nice
alternate with no nasty weather in case the original weather turned to
dogs dinner!
Sea Stories always help a tale like this. Once a pilot in my C-130
squadron cancelled a lift to Athens Greece based on forecast bad winds
at Iraklion Airport. I looked at the forecast, suited up, grabbed my
"Bingo Bag"* and launched. Got to Athens, where the wind was light, sun
shining and I made one of my famous "kiss the runway" landings that had
the passengers cheering! This worked great, with the bonus of a night on
the town in Athens for some great food. They don't always work out like
that and you may wind up in Bum***k, Egypt. spending the night in a
tent courtesy of the USMC!
On the other hand, given the usual incompetence of drivers not brought
up in New York or New England, staying at home with a nice fire in
fireplace has a lot going for it!
Hope to see you, but if not, see ya next month!

* Aviators will recognize this. It is small bag with shaving kit, clean
skivvies, and some civ clothes to wear out in town, where flight suits
aren't welcome!
