I cast my vote for:
Tom Shelton President ND3N
Richard Bozovich Vice President N1LID
June Entzi Secretary KC3GYL
Rene Ramirez Treasurer W3BNY
Thank you to all of the above folks for continuing to support the SMCARA
by volunteering to fill these key positions. Sometimes it can seem like you
are alone in helping to advance the merits of this great hobby (I have some
experience in this area having been the Association President for more than
a few years). But, fortunately, the rewards received back in 'feeling good'
about your fellow radio enthusiasts by helping them learn about technology
and assisting them to achieve better communications with each other is well
worth it. Good luck to all in keeping the SMCARA, as an institution,
forward thinking and fun!
PS: In one of my other roles as Board Vice President of the Patuxent
River Naval Air Museum here in Lexington Park, we have been doing very well
indeed this summer since we opened up our new exhibition building. We are
currently averaging almost 200 unique visitors a day to the museum with many
more on weekends. Many children are part of that demographic. We are
missing an excellent opportunity by not having the club station at the
museum manned, especially on Saturdays. Every day I walk by the display and
wish that we could have someone sitting there ready to talk to the many
visitors who stop by. What they see now is just a rack of equipment that is
neither operating or well displayed (i.e., no literature handouts, no
computer display operating with something interesting on the screen, no
interpretative signage, no nothing). I'll leave it at that but just
remember that we have more people/potential ham operators walk by the
currently unmanned ham station display at the museum EVERY DAY than I've
seen at all the Field Day events COMBINED that we've sponsored in the last
ten years. Oh, and the building is fully air conditioned to boot. I would
encourage SMCARA members to consider spending a couple of hours manning the
club station, especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and enjoy
engaging with folks from all over the world who are visiting the museum.
