As a crew member of the Maryland Dove and a director of Calvert Amateur Radio Association, I find that making contacts with historic ships during Museum Ship Weekend is enjoyable. And as we wrap up from Field Day, I am always looking forward to my next field operation. So I thought it might be fun and helpful to work the Maryland Dove at St Mary's City for Museum Ship Weekend next year.
I have contacted Capt. Will Gates and some other officials at St Mary's City and they are encouraging me to set something up that they will publicize as 'Communications Day at St Mary's City.: They will concentrate on historic means of communications including cannon firing and flags, I'm sure. CARA has approved their club's support. Would St Mary's County Amateur Radio Association like to join us in a joint operation on Saturday June 3, 2017?
It is an all weekend event, but Historic St Maries Citie is not open on Sunday this early in the year. So we are welcome to come on Friday to set up, Saturday to operate and interact with the public and mop up on Sunday. What a great way to dust off the gear in preparation for Field Day.
If interested, please send a contact name and I'll include them on the email list for this event. Looking forward to our clubs working together in a fun event.
