Get a DV dongle first and decide.  That's the cheapest option.  The second option is to get a DVAP, but you will need a HT to use it.  Final recommendation is to get/ build a Hotspot after the DVAP.The problem is no gateway on the local N3PX repeater.  You will find DSTAR to be a very well established and thriving environment, but you will need to access the reflectors.  Go to DSTAR101.COM and DSTARINFO.COM and make yourself familiar with the NETS and reflectors.  Great people on DSTAR.  I MAKE DX CONTACTS while I commute with my hotspot.  THIS IS A TWICE DAILY thing, and when I get home I usually just listen.  Got to much to do, and that's when it gets busy. There are reflectors that bridge to FUSION and DMR, because DSTAR has better than 35,000 registered amateurs and it is the best established DV system.  Dive in head first, or if you prefer - jump in with both feet. HAM NATION has a net on Wednesday on REF004C at 8 or 9 PM EST.Chose wisely, but always have fun doing it!

Subject: [SMCARA] Dstar Recommendations???

I am thinking about picking up a Dstar radio.  I am looking at either
the ID-51A Plus or the ID-880H.  What would you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance.
