[SMCARA] Repeater call sign - update

I'm glad that someone thought of Al Barolet (even if using a call that
honors him is not feasible). When I got to town in 1966, Al was already the
stuff of legend. A story going around back then was that when Al was
troubled by power line noise, he went out with a sledge hammer and walloped
every power pole in his neighborhood ... trying to find one with loose and
arcing connections. I didn't know him well until just before his death ...
he was an interesting personality ... and he is definitely part of St.
Mary's county amateur radio history.
I'll list some of the other names (and call signs) when I have time to sit
down and dig through my memory. George ... W3ADQ ... in Bushwood comes to
mind (George was a regular on the Maryland Emergency Phone Net (MEPN); and
Mort Regal of the old NATC Weapons Systems Test Division. And who was the
guy who put WKIK (AM) on the air in Leonardtown, back in 1953? I know where
he lived ... but it's going to take a few days to dredge up the name.

All:
After further research and inputs from several club members, I have
ascertained we cannot use
the aforementioned call sign for two reasons:
1). The FCC Does not allow Clubs to have more than one vanity call sign:
http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=call_signs_3&id=amateur&page=
2
2). AL3JAB is not a call sign available for assignment:

Thanks to everyone who pointed me in the right direction.

As you may already know, there is a >possibility< Saint Marys county
government will allow us to install
a new repeater system on a tower in Leonardtown. The tower has not yet been
built and final approval
for the new repeater has not yet been received.
In preparation for this eventuality, we applied for a call sign. The FCC has
assigned SMCARA club license
KC3FOQ to support the potential new repeater in Leonardtown.
It has been proposed we apply for a vanity call sign to honor a prior RACES
officers of St. Marys County;
John Alfred Barolet SK. He was the RACES officer for many years.
Im not opposed to the idea, but didnt want to effect the change without
consulting with you, the membership.
If you have alternative call sign ideas, please let me know. If I dont
hear of any alternatives, I will apply for
the new call sign. If there are alternative ideas, it will be voted upon at
the October club meeting.
