[SMCARA] Club Constitution & Bylaws & Club Elections

All,

I've had a chance to read over the Constitution and Bylaws and wanted to
offer my comment on that subject as well. (BTW, the search function on the
website will get you the article with the links to the documents.)

I agree with Dan that a one year stint as president is probably too short.
It can take time to get the ball rolling on projects and partnerships,
especially with teachers and their busy schedules. As much as we'd like
things to just happen that's often not the case. My suggestion would be a 2
year term with a 2 consecutive term limit. That gives the office holder
time to accomplish things if s/he is a one-term wonder but the ability to
get up a good head of steam if reelected for a second term. The bylaws are
clear that if someone resigns that a special election can be held to fill
the seat and that an office holder can be removed if necessary. So no
worries about being leaderless or stuck with a stinker. What wasn't clear
in the wording was if future, non-consecutive terms are allowed. With the
election process we have (almost) anyone can have a turn but as I mentioned
in my other email there's often a small core of dedicated folks who keep
things alive and are usually willing to cycle through positions until new
folks show an interest. I would suggest clarifying the wording in the
constitution (one way or the other) before the issue comes up. Perhaps it's
already clear and I'm just not aware.

And in the wise words of Mr. Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about
that.". :)
