Dan, Yes with Logger32 there is a built in utility that loads to LOTW. You
have to mark the qso's for upload to LOTW, or EQSL, and then click a button
and type your LOTW password, and done! I believe HRD has a similar option
built in. I have tried HRD, and it is great, but personally I prefer
Logger32. The following is a list of items that I use on a regular in
Logger32.
1. I have subscribed to QRZ online lookup, and it auto-fills when I tab
after entering the callsign I am going to work. This fills all info from
QRZ into my logbook, grid square, name address, state, zones, and so many
more items.
2. Built in Telnet DX Cluster. List of calls from cluster are color coded
to tell if it is a new DX entity, confirmed, or needed on present band.
3. Previous QSO's with callsign I enter, also has a window that shows what
bands I have worked and or confirmed DX entities on.
4. Award tracking. Tracks DXCC, WAS, GRIDs, WAZ, VUCC, and several others.
5. Log can be updated to show what callsigns have confirmed via paper, eqsl
and LOTW. LOTW outputs a file that updates all you confirmed contacts. I
download that and upload it into Logger32, to show me if they have
confirmed. This is also used to update the awards tracking.
I don't know how far you want to program, but thought I would mention the
items I use most often.

Subject: [SMCARA] Logging Software
So as you all might know I have completely abandoned windows and have
moved everything I use (including my work laptop) to Linux specifically
Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17.1. One thing I have noticed is that
though there is logging software available there is nothing as robust as
HRD (at least not that I have found as of yet). I am needing to refresh
my Java skills for upcoming tasking and a logging package seemed like a
cool thing to sink my teeth into to see how things have changed since
the last time I have programmed in Java which was 2003-ish. Jason might
remember when I was on the Exec Helo Program at Rotary Wing.
Since I only started this last night at 10pm, I am in the beginning
stages of development and only have the reading of the configuration
file including opening a configuration dialog if no configuration file
exists. I also have opening the log book database if it already exists
and creating the log book database if it is the user's first time
running the program completed.
I should have the basics of adding new contacts and listing those
contacts that exist in the database done this evening and should be
getting into importing and exporting adif formatted files. Because I
have a lot of recent programming experience with Yaesu radios and their
CAT protocol I was considering building a JNI (Java Native Interface)
library to communicate with the serial port so I can connect it to my
FT-857D. JNI gives Java access to the hardware through c/c++ libraries
in Linux known as shared objects or in windows might be known as DLLs.
Is there anything else that would be cool to add? Has anyone heard of
being able to sign their logbooks for LOTW upload without TSQL?
Thought I might ask.
