Attention Techs - Starting at 1800Z this afternoon (2:00 PM Local -
Saturday, June 13th, 2015), you can use your 2M FM transceiver (HT/Mobile)
to make contacts in the ARRL June VHF Contest. The contest ends at 0259Z on
Sunday, June 15th (Sunday, 11:00 PM Local) Of course, if you have different
mode capabilities for anything about 50 MHz, you can use your extended
capabilities in this contest. I plan on operating CW only on the 6 Meter
band.
To begin, read the following: ARRL June VHF Contest rules:
http://www.arrl.org/june-vhf and General Rules for ARRL Contests on bands
above 50 MHz (VHF):
http://www.arrl.org/general-rules-for-arrl-contests-above-50-mhz
These rules describe the contest, your operator category in the contest, and
any limits (Power, Frequency, etc.) on the contest. For example, you can't
use a repeater for this contest (all contacts must be simplex only) and you
can't use the national calling frequency of 146.52 MHz or immediately
adjacent guard frequencies for the purpose of making or soliciting QSOs.
Next, get a logging program. If you're familiar with contest logging
software and not afraid of a little complexity, the N1MM-Plus program is a
Free - Full Featured program. You can download it here:
http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-index.php?page=Full+Install
If this software seems too complex for you, try GenLog
(http://www.qsl.net/w3km/) and select the All Band VHF/UHF Sprint contest.
I haven't used VHFLOG (also by W3KM - but it might be worth a shot -
http://qsl.net/w3km/#vhflog)
Finally, you'll have to submit your log - whatever logging program you use
will allow you to generate a Cabrillo file. The instructions and due dates
for the logs are listed in the contest rules.
Have fun - I hope to hear you on the air.
