Carl,

I will be there from setup until midafternoon and then again after the picnic until midnight. I can take a couple of Control Op slots anytime in there.

The Radio Capt idea is interesting since we normally don't get folks to commit to time slots and the radios sit idle. The RC might be the answer.

Another responsibility of the Control Op is to make sure we don't get 4 stations on at the same time. That is easy to do when folks set up their digital or solar/bicycle/wind/ and use the FD call sign, without making sure one of the three slots are not on the air.

Beat the bushes to see if you can get a couple of CW ops to man the station, especially during the night when most folks head home and no RF emanates from HVFD! Hint: Sam Leach and Dave Willenborg both are accomplished "brass pounders".

I will be returning from vacation on the Wednesday before FD, and will have all the club gear that is stored on base in my truck for delivery Saturday AM. I will send you a list of what is on base under separate cover.

73 Tom/W4OKW

Subject: [SMCARA] Field Day Volunteers and other Field Day "stuff"

Hello all,Field Day is right around the corner, and we need volunteers. The first volunteering opportunity would be control operators. To anyone with an extra class license that plans on going to Field Day, it would be greatly appreciated of you could sign up.  Control operators will simply need to be within ear-shot of the radio, just so we will be able to use the Extra Class frequencies. We will be breaking them up into 2 hour shifts.  So if your an extra and have an idea of what time you'll be going to field day, please sign up for as many shifts as possible. The next "type" of volunteer we will need is radio "captains". this is something new for field day, but I really like the idea.  Radio Captains will be assigned to a radio for 2 hour shifts to do a couple things.  First, it would be your job to assist with however is operating the radio with logging/ radio trouble. Second, it will be your duty to "round up" people to operate if you have an empty radio , and to politely (without a better way to say it) kick someone off the radio who has been operating to long in order to let others operate. Again, these will be in 2 hour shifts.Ideally id want someone with as much HF experience as possible to be the Radio Captains, but any volunteers would be appreciated.
If you want to volunteer for being a control operator or Radio Captain, please email me to kc3cch at yahoo.com And to all other club members, please wear your club T-Shirt, so that visitors will easily be able to tell who knows what's going on.Also, we will have stickers available for you to write your interest in the hobby to let visitors have something to start a conversation with you.For example, I would write, "Ask me about QRP" on my sticker. This would give a visitor an opportunity to ask me, "Hi, what exactly is QRP?" , and that would then give me an opportunity to walk them around, show them a radio etc..
If you have any questions, comments, or want to volunteer, email me to kc3cch at yahoo.com Thanks and 73Carl KC3CCH ______________________________________________________________
