Bill,
I was reading the manual for the FTDX-3000 last night looking for an
interface to connect to the AT-100proII. I did not see on that jumped
out at me except taking over the tuner port but it would require an
interface circuit to communicate with the radio via the CAT interface.
Based on my notes from connecting the IT-100 to my FT-857D and based on
my reading in the AT-100PROII manual, the 1/8" mono plug on the back of
the AT-100ProII is normally open but goes to ground when the tuner wants
the radio to TX.
So it is a very simple circuit that you'll need a to create the
interface. PIC processor with 2 UARTS (PIC18F45K22 should work), 2x
MAX232CPE RS-232 to TTL converters with necessary capacitors, 2x DB-9
Male connectors and a 1/8" mono jack, 8 pin mini din for the tuner port
(need the 13.8V line to power the PIC), LM7805 Voltage regulator, 2x 10k
ohm resisters and 2n2222 transistor. There may be a few filtering caps I
am missing for the voltage regulator. Might even get a small project
box.
The code in the processor configures the UARTS to normally talk between
a PC and the Radio until a digital input pin is pulled down to ground at
which point the processor will put the computer communications on hold
by utilizing the CTS and DTR lines in the serial connection. Once comms
with the computer are on hold, the processor configures the radio via
the CAT interface and the tune cycle completes. Once completed the
Digital Input pin will go high causing the processor to restore the
previous configuration in the radio and restores computer / radio
communications.
I have all of the components, processor, protoboards and pic programmer
to complete the task minus the 1/8" mono jack and project box. If you'd
like I can draw up the circuit schematic.
