Ren (et al.),
Looks like I came late to the party, many thanks to Marty for the info.
We do indeed get a kickback from the ARRL if you renew or sign up
through SMCARA. If you are a new ARRL member (or have not been a member
for 2+ years) we get $15 from your first year and renewals earn us $2.
I've updated the club website with the membership form from the ARRL
that you'd need to print out and turn in, either in person or by mail.
The first page is for you to fill out and the second page is for the
club Treasurer. Unfortunately the system is not as simple as it should
be, in my opinion, so read the paperwork carefully. Two things to note:
(1) The checkbox located below the "ARRL Member Benefits" box so you can
opt out of having your info shared with non-ARRL affiliates, if you want
and (2) The line in bold below the opt out box that says you've already
paid your commission ($15 or $2) directly to SMAS. If you give SMAS the
commission directly you should deduct that amount from the total you are
sending the ARRL. There's nothing on the second page of the form so that
the Treasurer can note that fact so be sure to circle that line if
that's what you've done. Like I said, it's not as simple as I think it
should be.
And if anyone has signed up/renewed with the ARRL through their website
let me know if they have an option for this commission process there.
Cheers & 73,
*Chris Ordiway - KC3DIG*
