Tom, I was able to hit the repeater yesterday morning when you called out
your call sign around 1200-1230. That was me on mobile. I was traveling
North on Rt. 235 using 50 watts and a NMO mounted dual band quarter wave
antenna. Repeater Book puts that location puts the repeater about 17 miles
to the south east.

This morning, about 0900 I was able to hit the repeater again from my truck
using 50 watts from my QTH. I did not get a contact but the repeater did
identify. Repeater Book puts the repeater 15.3 mile south east of me.

I've tried several times from my QTH radio, about 25 feet from the
successful try from my mobile, using 50 watts and a dual band half-wave
j-pole at about 35'. I am not able to reach the repeater using that radio
and antenna.

It appears the quarter wave is better at reaching the repeater. I am also
unable to hit the WA3UMY from the QTH radio but am able to hit it from my
mobile sitting in the driveway.

73s,

Dave W3DLQ
