Hi Chris,

It does sound like you have a bum cell in the battery.  Your idea to troubleshoot with a known good battery is right on.  That will tell you whether you need a new battery or it needs a trip to the repair shop.

Howdy all,

I have a problem with my Wouxun KG-UV899 HT that I received from the club after passing my Tech exam. During the Net last night it went dead, I think as I was beginning to key the PTT, and hasn't been alive since. I've detached and reattached the battery but no change. If I put it on the charger it comes to life and the battery shows full capacity, which the charger base agrees with with a green light. But as soon as I remove it from the charger it flatlines.  Anyone else had any issues with this HT?
And is there someone who has the same HT that would meet me out someplace (at your convenience) so I could try their battery on my radio to help diagnose the source of the problem? I don't want to bother buying a new battery if the radio is the issue. I've prowled the interwebs for an answer but am coming up dry.
