[SMCARA] Day Of Service: September 20, 2014 - Communicators Still Needed

All,

 

For the last couple of years in September the citizens of the State of
Maryland are encouraged to participate in what is called a day of service.
This year the window started September 11th and continues until the end of
the month. There are several events around the area but one event in
particular is asking for Amateur Radio support.

 

When: September 20th starting 07:30 ending with a free lunch at 12:30pm. 

 

Where: Serenity Farm, 6932 Serenity Farm Rd, Benedict, MD 20612

 

Task: Help the operators of the farm coordinate the services of the expected
750+ volunteers and help move the expected 500 cars around the farm as they
pick-up the much needed food.

 

Equipment: Handheld Transceiver and a safety vest.

 

Frequency and assignment details will be posted officially later today or
tomorrow but here is the plan as it currently exists:

 


A.   ABC's of  Radio Calling


1.    Frequency usage


a)       Net Control #1 - 146.420 MHz


(1)   Fence Painting


(2)   Harvesting Green Beans


(3)   Roving Operators: Rapid Transport and Management Shadows


b)     Net Control #2 - 146.550 MHz


(1)   Culling/ Sorting Produce


(2)   Packaging Produce for the food drop


(3)   Weeding Greenhouse / Washing Windows of the Green House / Cemetery
Clean-Up.


c)      Net Control #3 - 147.450 MHz


(1)   Manning a Food Drop


(2)   Parking Cars


(3)   Traffic Control


 

There are a total of 22 team of workers with each team varying in size
starting at 25 people to as many as 1 to 2 hundred people. I currently have
18 volunteers and would like to have 12 more for a total of 30 operators.
Please if you have a few hours Saturday morning form 7:30am to 12:30pm and
would like to help out please contact me ASAP.
