[SMCARA] Club Station and Digital

I know I am coming into this conversation very late, and that the general
consensus has been made to purchase equipment supporting Field Day type
events.

I know that we will get the request to support a local Jamboree on the Air
(JOTA) event again this year. JOTA dates this year are October 17-19. I
have not heard yet, but I believe the scouts will set up a Camporee again at
Long Farm that same weekend and will ask us to set up again.

It is very likely that conditions will be the same (or worse) as it was at
Field Day or last year's JOTA. Which means that HF frequencies will be
difficult to make DX contacts. I recommend that we be able to link into
IRLP, Echolink, or some other networks that will allow us to harness VHF/UHF
to talk to other parts of the world.
My knowledge on how to do it stops at the fact that I know it can be done,
and have seen it done. I would love to learn if somebody knows how. I have
a Kenwood TH-D72A and a laptop if somebody wants to teach me.

Subject: [SMCARA] Club Station and Digital

So it has been suggested that we as a club should hold more events like
Field Day where we operate as a group. I like the idea and am ready to
support it. The only two things that would benefit from such a gathering is
a contest or a special event (open to other reasons). So I am curious does
the club station have the ability to do RTTY? How hard would it be to set it
up? Might we use the setup process as a demonstration as to how to get a
station to do digital modes?

I am the above questions because on the 19th is the North American QSO Party
RTTY edition.
Details:

Name: North American QSO Party RTTY
Date: Jul 19, 1800Z - Jul 20, 0600Z
Freq: 3.5-28
Mode: DIGITAL
Exchange: Name and S/P/C (State/Province/Country)
Logs: ncjweb.com 7 days

First, can we get the station to do digital in time. I have a win 7 laptop
that is just the base install so it can be configured to do whatever we need
at this point.

Second, Do we want to use getting the station on digital as a demonstration
to how to get a station up on digital?

Third, Would anyone else be interested in operating multi-op for this
contest? I think we could use the filters and triplexer to set up additional
stations at the museum that day. Of course we would have to talk to the
museum.

This is now open for discussion.
HAVE FUN!
