All,
Please if you can support this effort. We are being asked for
assistance. Tom has laid out the shifts below. If you can cover one or
more please let him know by sending him an email to
gl1800winger at verizon.net.
Thank you to those who have already volunteered. I am planning to be
there most of Friday the 19th so I hope to see you all there!
Thanks,
Dan Metcalf -- KB3UUN

Hi All,
First, thanks for volunteering to help out with the Christmas Village.
This is promising to be huge and your help will be greatly appreciated.
Here are the operating shifts – let me know which ones you can commit to
supporting. Please note that the shifts start an hour before the CV
opens and go until an hour after they close.
Friday, Dec. 19: 2:00 – 6:00 PM
Friday, Dec. 19: 6:00 – 10:00 PM
Saturday, Dec. 20: 2:00 – 6:00 PM
Saturday, Dec. 20: 6:00 – 10:00 PM
Sunday, Dec. 21: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Sunday, Dec. 21: 3:00 – 7:00 PM
Sunday, Dec. 21: 7:00 – 10:00 PM
Check in with Net Control at the Guest Services area to receive your
assignments.
Generally, we’ll be roving the area, being eyes and ears for the
organizers. For example, you may hear a report of a lost child and
given an area to go to be on the lookout. You may come across someone
with a twisted ankle who needs some medical attention. With the crowds
we are expecting, there may be some arguments that start to get over
heated and need intervention – a quick call on your radio will bring in
the police to assist.
We are not there to offer medical services, or to be security, we are
there to provide quick and reliable communication to get the proper help
there. I’m hoping that while you are roving, you’ll take advantage of
some of the offerings of the Christmas Village and take some time to
enjoy yourself.
If you can’t do a lot of walking, let me know and I’ll accommodate you
as best as I can.
As a reminder, a few things you’ll want to have (beyond your radio and
your willingness to serve, all are nice to have, not mandatory)
* A 2-meter HT (we'll be using 146.535 Simplex - low power
should be sufficient)
* A brightly colored safety vest (for example:
http://tinyurl.com/ldvu4ov )
If you don’t have a vest, a brightly colored jacket will work.
* Warm clothes and comfortable shoes
* Flashlight
* A desire to serve your community
Please respond as quickly as you can letting me know which times you can
support (see above) – if you can only support part of a given time, that
would be great too, just let me know.
