Earlier today there was an x2.1 Solar Flare that, for all practical purposes, shut down the HF bands.  Solar Flares are different than Coronal Mass Ejections in that a CME gives us the northern lights and can interfere with radio communications for several days.  A solar flare energizes the ionospheric D-Layer, which increases HF absorption, but the affects last only a few hours – the HF bands are back and wide open.  Especially 10 Meters (MUF is 29.33MHz)...
