I got to thinking about this school club roundup happening next week and I
know of only one school in St. Mary's County who has the equipment to at
least to make something like this happen and that is Leonardtown High
School with Jim (KB1YZ) at the helm. Which is awesome because he was the
one that inspired me to get into radio back when I was in middle school. It
just took me a while to figure out where to go to get the study material
and a place to take the exam.
Here is what I am considering and would appreciate some feedback on.
Would the club be interested in sponsoring other schools in St. Mary's
County including Elementary Schools inviting grades 3 - 5 to participate.
This sponsorship would include classes and exams to get those interested
licensed. If enough interest is shown (at least 4 students) we would then
head up school club meetings. I am sure we can round up donations for gear
to setup a club station at the sponsored schools.
Now I know this is going to take some work and we might have to jump
through some hoops but I think it would be worth while to do it.
Any ideas where we can start? I am partial to Oakville that is where I went
as a kid and now my kids go there. If enough interest is shown should
we sponsor more than one at a time.
Thoughts?
