[SMCARA] Field Day Itinerary

Dan,

I CCed the reflector on this, in case anyone else has some ideas.

No problem, as we normally have enough "radios in reserve", so no station goes without a rig. Balancing the idea of a set rig for each stations, is the fact that folks get to experience different rigs.

We seem to have a preponderance of Icoms, so having the odd Yaesu and Kenwood in the mix is a good thing. In my case, I have used different rigs at club stations and field days over the years, so that helped me decide that I am most comfortable with Icom rigs.

As I see it, we set up each of the three stations with a "core" radio and then if someone wants to use their Whizbang 987.4 they can do so. When they take their ball and go home, the station reverts back to the core rig.

Initial set up would be something like this:

Daytime

20 Meters=	IC-746/IC7K Yagi via Triplexer
15 Meters=	IC-751A/IC725	Yagi via Triplexer
10 Meters+	IC-7200/IC-735	Yagi via Triplexer
If 10 is completely dead, QSY to 40 Meters which should be good in daytime also.
We should give 6 Meters a try also. Need to find out from a six meter guru, when prop is good.

Nightime

20 Meters	IC-746 Yagi
40 Meters	IC-751A Dipole
80 Meters	IC-7200/735 Dipole

I have not decided about bringing the K-3 yet, as it is a very complicated (read capable) rig and the learning curve is steep. One thing it has going for it is the front end is "uncrunch-able" in a high RF environment. We used K-2/K-3s on the Buddiepole DXPeditions, and we did not "get in each other's knickers", so to speak. So far, I like everything about the rig as I discover more of the "hidden features"! Every once in a while, I hit the wrong button and go off into "never, never land", and have to break out the manual!

One issue that comes up every year with the three stations in close proximity is the use of speaker audio. 3 rigs blasting away makes copy difficult and it also gets picked up and retransmitted. Headsets/Phones are the way to go. Since we like to demonstrate to the newbies, as well as have "Loggers" helping, multiple headsets are a must. I think Rat Shack has "splitters" that will let us use multiple headsets with each rig. I'll check.

Nothing is in stone.

I have no problem putting my FT-897 in the car as a backup rig but I was hoping we were keeping a list as to who was bringing what radio and which radios are going to be allowed to stay in place for the duration. We have should have plenty of new operators attending and I don't want to miss an opportunity to get them on the air because radios had to leave with the owners. As long as we have a core set of radios that can stay in place my concerns and confusion are resolved.

	Hi Dan,

It has been pretty much "jungle rules" in the past!

We will have the IC-746, IC-735, and IC-751A available from the club. I will bring my IC-7000 and BOz and Tom indicated they would bring their IC-7200s. I will bring my K-3, but won't leave it the whole time.

Anyone can bring their favorite rigs and use them.

	What do you think?

Do we actually have a list of whose radio are going to be in use? Or are we setting up stations and it is a bring you own rig situation? I think there is some confusion on this point at the very least on my part.
