I don't think the wire size matters as much as whether it's made of stranded
or solid conductors (assuming you're running 100 Watts). The solid ones
tend to break where they attach to the antenna.
To solve the attachment problem, I'm a real believer in the WA1FFL Ladder

I am going to put up a new antenna that will be fed with ladder-line or
window-line and am wondering whether I should get the 18 AWG or 14 AWG, I am
not running high power so it does not have to be big out of necessity. The
antenna is a 43ft or 5/8 WL vertical.
