CARA FOX HUNT
Fifty dollar cash prize to the first Amateur to find the Fox transmitter
Saturday May 4th
2 PM
Assemble at the:
Mount Harmony Elementary School Parking Lot
900 West Mount Harmony Road Owings, Maryland 20736
$10.00 Registration fee
We will assemble at the Mount Harmony Elementary School Parking lot
2PM.Registration fee for the participating in the Fox Hunt is $10.00
The Fox Transmitter will be turned on and the frequency will be announced
on the 146.985 repeater once all participants are registered
(approximately 2:30PM).
This Fox Hunt is a part driving event and a part on foot event come
prepared to do some driving and some walking.
Once the Fox is located please announce your call sign and that you
have found the fox on the 146.985 repeater.
** IMPORTANT** DO NOT DISCLOSE THE LOCATION OF THE FOX***
The first amateur that finds the Fox must retrieve the prize voucher only
that will be attached to the fox. Please leave the fox transmitter in place
for others to find. The voucher must be presented to KB3WFV in order to
receive a $50.00 cash prize..
Only a hand held transceiver and a hand held direction or omni antenna are
permitted to be used to locate the Fox.
NO additional electronic assistance is allowed. This includes, but not
limited to, antennas using active electronics such as time direction of
arrival "handy-finders" and Doppler direction finding systems. Real-time
electronic maps on computers or smart phones, including computer-assisted plotting
are also prohibited. This will be a "paper maps and compass" foxhunt.
GPS for vehicle navigational purposes only is OK.
The magnetic declination in our area is 11 degrees West. This means you
need to SUBTRACT 11 degrees from your compass bearing to get a bearing
referenced to true north for plotting on a map that is referenced to true rather
than magnetic north.
Mechanical or passive electronic methods such as resistive attenuators for
attenuating the RX signal are permitted.
Participants must obey all local laws including but not limited to traffic
laws and respect private and public property.
SAFETY FIRST. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND A BEARING WHILE YOUR VEHICLE IS IN
MOTION.
All decisions of the Fox Hunt Committee are final.
