All,
We have discovered a weak point in the new Yagi installed at the museum.
The boom joint consists of a plate with U-bolts to hold it together with
no sleeve or insert to strengthen the joint. We will have to bring the
antenna to the ground in order to retune it (it is off frequency) and
would like to fix the boom joint then.
What we need is a piece of aluminum tubing with an outside diameter of
1.125 to 1.130 inches to fit inside the two boom pieces which have an
i.d. of 1.134. Alternatively we could use a piece of fiberglass rod or
even a piece of very hard wood (maple, etc).
Look at your "goodie pile", you know that pile of stuff the xyl would
like you to remove from the garage/basement, to see if you have
something that might work. If you find a piece of fiberglass or wood and
it is too large, we might be able to find someone to turn it on a lathe
to size.
Stand by for another antenna party!
