Ray,

Last year, someone (I can't for the life of me remember who) mentioned they
wanted to bring their RV to field day, but did not do so because I had
brought mine. I am teeter totterering on whether to bring mine this year or
not.

SO: I am more than happy to stand aside and leave ny camper at home.

I will bring my IC7000, a laptop for controlling it and some sort of ten
meter antenna.

Food: watermelon.

Rene: do you want me to leave the potato launcher this year? It was very
popular the last two years, but if its a concern, ill leave it at home.

Subject: [SMCARA] Field day followup

Happy Monday..or Tuesday...well it feels like Monday.

Alright, lets do some recap on what was covered on last Thursday.

1. Field day is Saturday 23~24 June. There was some question concerning
setup times so downloaded the rules. Here is the OFFICIAL gouge. And I
quote

3. Date and Time Period: Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of
June, beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday
and ending at 2100 UTC Sunday. Field Day 2012 will be held June 23-24, 2012.
3.1. Class A and B (see below) stations that do not begin setting up until
1800 UTC on Saturday may
operate the entire 27-hour Field Day period.
3.2. Stations who begin setting up before 1800 UTC Saturday may work only
24 consecutive hours,
commencing when on-the-air operations begin.
3.3. No Class A or B station may begin their set-up earlier than 1800 UTC
on the Friday preceding the
Field Day period.

So we can setup before 1800UTC (1pm EST) but you just will only be allowed
to run for 24hrs from when the first "CQ FIELD DAY" is yelled into the
mike. Which is ok for us because we rarely...RARELY go past noon for
operations anyway. So with that in mind, unless Mr. Pres has any
objections, Setup will commence at 1000 local time at the fire station.

2. We will be running 3A (club/non-club portable) as K3NHK I do believe
there will be a GOTA station as well as some VHF/UHF stuff as well. the 3A
desig could change but that will be the current "official" designation.
(note: do not let that stop you from bringing stuff...more later)

3. Location: The Hollywood Volunteer Fire Station. in the back. by the
antennas. Now, we will have access to the bingo hall and as discussed, but
that should be for food, get out of the sun, rag chewing etc but not
operations. There will be a donated tent for operations. Feel free to
bring your own tent for separate ops/sleeping/crap games...

4. Home made goodies warning. As discussed, please...PLEASE if you make
some delicious thingie and it has nuts etc. in it. Take a moment to make a
little note to put with it saying "this has nuts in it" or if you cheat and
go to shoppers/giant/fud lions put the ingredients lid somewhere by it so
folks concerned know there is nuts in it. All good? Good.

5. Toys/trinkets/and "ooh shinies": Feel free to bring what you want
(please keep it UNDER 2 metric tons, and ABSOLUTELY NO nuclear reactors,
binary chemical lasers, rail guns, WMD's, baked beans with onions, divide
by zero machines, chili WITH beans, 2Kw+ amplifiers, or any
radios/amplifiers you got down at the "Flying J") Bring anything you want
to show off, have someone look and, tweak, tune, test on air etc. But just
keep an eye on it and seriously, keep it legal at least will ya?

6. Y'all thought I was kidding...NO GROUND ROD DRIVING ON FIELD DAY SITE
PERIOD! We have access to grounds to bond up to. If you need to drive
pins etc. for your tent or thingie, ask first for guidance and clearance to
sink it. Trust me! I'll bring the "K3HKI trophy of excellence" for y'all
to snurk at.

7. Safety first. especially electrical/RF/lightning safety. if it gets
ugly and it does often, ops will be suspended and we may evacuate to the
bingo hall. prepare for it and it wont be a shock (no pun intended). And
dont get upset if someone points out that what you are doing isnt safe. We
want you around for next field day. Also it is June and its gonna be HOT!
Drink water...WATER...if you feel icky let someone know. Got med issues,
tell someone or keep your medic alert bracelet handy. Oh and prepare for
skeeters! I use 100% DEET and your free to use it. Or bring what you like
to use. Will be more than enough to go round but if you have a personal
preference, please bring it. oh and sunscreen and a hat!

8. Security: As you can guess there will be a lot...A LOT of money
floating around the site in radios/gear/etc. and it would be a big shame
(much less grand theft) to see it grow feet and walk away. Therefore,
there must be at least two folks on site at all times...and awake at that!
Sure we can close up and go home to our comfy air conditioned homes for the
night but we gotta pack EVERYTHING up and secure it. It normally isnt a
big deal and someone is always there shooting the... all night but we
always say "Two awake operators on site at all times". And please...PLEASE
tell your Mom/Dad/Guardian/Spouse/Significant other/Dog/Cat/??? that you
are going to be out and at the site so a APB isnt put out on ya. Be bad to
stop at the Sheetz and see you on a choco milk carton (unless youre the
QUICK bunny)

here it is... TASKING!

Most important of all. FOOD! We need a volunteer to pick up
food/sodas/etc. Preferable one that has a BJ's card or a SAMS card.
Please respond to myself and CC Tom Shelton AB3IC If you can do this.
Seriously. Need someone to pick this up!

Next food item: Please bring sides, salads, and deserts. No tasking but
bring stuff! We wont throw you off site if you dont but it would be nice
if you did bring a little something.

Gas Grill: Ray KB3FWW has this one. Closed

Logging computers: Ray...closed (if you still want to bring yours..feel
free. may bring my portable internet wireless router)

Cables and coax. Volunteers needed to coordinate with Pete Butt (WA3UMY)
to get coax and other field day cables from him to bring to site.

Ice chests: Especially those with HUGE marine ones. Need a few. RSVP to
me if you can support us. (I'll be bringing one)

Genset(s) Club has one. May need transportation. I will bring mine as
well. Should be covered on that one (closed?)

PR!: Ray says he will be speaking to the County EOC folks. Need you
journalism types to please submit a writeup to the county papers and the
local radio station bulletin board announcements. Please coordinate with
Tom with this one prior to submission please!

I know there is probably more so feel free to add!

Most important thing of all...

HAVE FUN, BRING YER BUDDIES/FRIENDS/CLASSMATES/KIDS/NEIGHBORS OR ANYONE
INTERESTED IN AMATEUR RADIO! That is our #1 goal and priority...other than
fudz...is to have fun and enjoy ourselves.

Think that about covers it folks. Roger up for tasks, add to the list if
you can or make suggestions if I missed something or just want to do
something different. We are all ears and ready to listen. U R 5NN PODUNK
MD.

June 23's coming... More to follow later.

73 DE W3BNY...OUT.
