Starting at 1:00 PM this afternoon (18:00 UTC, 21 Jan 2012), and continuing until 1:00 AM, is the North America QSO Party (SSB edition).
This contest has a couple of interesting features: a power limit of 100 watts and spotting networks are not allowed. This means that just about anyone willing to put in the time can be competitive.
As a single operator, you are only allowed to work 10 hours out of the 12.
Your exchange will be your Name and Location (for me: Tom Maryland). For your log, you’ll enter the other stations name and State/Province/Country. Stations outside of North America will just send their name.
You get one point per contact, Multipliers are U.S. states (including KH6 and KL7), 13 Canadian provinces/territories (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland/Labrador, Yukon, NWT and Nunavut) and other North American countries. District of Columbia counts as Maryland. Non-North American countries, maritime mobiles and aeronautical mobiles do not count as multipliers, but may be worked for QSO credit.
Full rules can be found here: http://www.ncjweb.com/naqprules.pdf
A good, FREE, but very basic contest logging program (GENLOG) can be found here: http://www.qsl.net/w3km/
A more advanced contest logging program (but still free) (N1MM) can be found here: http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-index.php – as with any program, the more capable the program is and the more features a given program has, the more difficult it is to learn – you may want to play with N1MM before the contest – and remember to turn off the spotting features for this contest.
As always, if you need some help with the contest or putting your log together after the contest, please contact me and I’ll do what I can.
