Allen,

 

I have several "Balloon Starter Kits" left over from a project a couple
years ago.

 

It's a simple 100mW VHF transmitter (147 something in the simplex section).
It's got a tiny microprocessor that sends your callsign, battery voltage,
air temperature and minute number once per minute in CW. It weighs next to
nothing and runs off a single 9V battery for about 6 hours. 

 

It's meant to learn about balloon launches and costs next to nothing, so if
you don't get it back, no big deal.

 

You could easily launch this with 4 or 5 mylar party balloons. I'd be glad
to donate them to the cause. It will give a little mini project before the
big project is committed to with the big dollars.
